🔬 Enhancing Thermal Stability and Polymer Lifetime

During plastic compounding, polymers are exposed to high temperatures, shear forces, oxygen, and catalytic residues. These processing conditions can trigger oxidative degradation, leading to chain scission, yellowing, loss of mechanical properties, and reduced product life.

1. Primary Anti-Oxidants (Phenolic AOs) – Free radical scavengers

  • Interrupt the initiation stage of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals.
  • Typical grades: SONGNOX® 1010, SONGNOX® 1076
  • Recommended for: PE, PP, TPE, ABS, POM, PA, etc.

2. Secondary Anti-Oxidants (Phosphites / Phosphonites) – Hydroperoxide decomposers

  • React with hydroperoxides to prevent propagation and chain breakdown.
  • Typical grades: SONGNOX® 1680, SONGNOX® 6260
  • Ideal for high-temperature processes like extrusion and injection molding.

3. Synergistic AO Blends

  • Combining primary and secondary AOs provides a synergistic effect, enhancing both processing and long-term thermal stability.
  • Commonly used in engineering plastics, masterbatch formulations, and outdoor-use materials.
